What are the Precautions for Installing and Maintaining Semi-Trailer Axles?

The vehicle axle is the most crucial set of components on the semi-trailer, directly related to its carrying capacity, braking and travel. If there are problems with the axle, the vehicle's safety, attendance rate and economic benefits are almost meaningless. Therefore, it is particularly important to do a good job of installation, maintenance and upkeep of the axle.


In fact, there are many precautions that specialized vehicle companies must take when it comes to the installation and maintenance of their axle products. The correct installation and regular maintenance can keep the vehicle in good condition, ensuring that its performance and safety are guaranteed.

Welding of spring chair and axle:


Spring chair is the place where the axle undergoes the greatest bending stress. Therefore, the welding quality of the spring chair and axle is extremely important as it directly affects the service life of the axle.


Problems to note when welding spring chair and axle body:


(1) Whether the spring chair and axle body are fully aligned, if they are not tight then they need to be corrected before further welding;


(2) The position of the spring chair on the axle body should meet the requirements of the center distance;


(3) The welding ground wire must only be connected to the axle body and not through the rotating part of the wheel to avoid damage to the bearings caused by over-electrification and firing.


Tightening of semi-trailer axle bolts


After the vehicle is initially loaded and driven, after 15 days of driving, or every time the tires are replaced, tighten the nuts in the specified order using a torque wrench to the specified value.


For JIS bolts, first remove the wheel's spherical nuts, tighten the cup-shaped nuts to the specified value using a torque wrench, then tighten the spherical nuts to the specified value.


Maintenance of the lubrication system for the semi-trailer


The lubrication system of the axle should pay attention to the following maintenance issues:


1. The axle lubrication system is divided into grease lubrication and oil lubrication systems, and it is recommended to use lubricating products suitable for different systems.


The grease lubrication system requires a No. 2 composite lithium-based grease with an applicable temperature range of -30°C to 180°C, and recommends the use of Auton-Special grease oil bags or Mobil XHP222 grease, with a grease consumption of about 1.2-1.5 kg per axle. The lubricating oil used for the oil lubrication system is 80W-90 gear oil.


2. For camshaft bushings and brake adjuster arms, lubricating grease should be added every three months until new grease overflows from the oil nozzle. Regular grease addition is helpful in reducing mechanical wear and tear.


3. For the lubrication system, the parts should be dismantled in order, completely cleaned with diesel oil, and the bearing and seal should be examined for wear and tear each time the brake friction plate is replaced, or at least once a year, or after traveling 150,000 kilometers. If any parts fail, they should be timely replaced with new parts.


Clean the wheel hub cavity and the hub end cover cavity of the semi-trailer, and then add the lubricant. The grease added to the hub cavity is 0.4-0.57 kg, and the clearance between the inner rings of bearings must be filled with grease.


After each disassembly of the wheel hub bearing, it is recommended that users replace the wheel hub sealing ring with a new one in order to obtain better sealing performance.
